Get your Skin and Beauty in Shape Before Your Wedding
Wedding Tips from Omaha Wedding Vendors
One of the things we love the most about being long-time wedding photographers in Omaha is the connection we have with other talented, experienced professionals. Omaha has the best-of-the-best and we love working with them on a regular basis! Not just because we form our own tight-knit friendships and communities, but because we know our couples will get amazing results, every time.
With the recent announcement of the ever-popular wedding blog, Style Me Pretty, shutting down at the end of April, it really fired our fuel about what is actually helpful to couples getting married in the Midwest. Or anywhere for that matter.
While huge international wedding blogs are fun to pour over, we've never been 100% sold that they're all that practical when it comes to YOUR wedding.
As a vendor, are they fun to be published on? You bet! Does it mean anything? No. Have they turned the wedding industry into a Pinterest board instead of about marriage? Maybe......we'll let you form your own opinions on that.
We know there is an overwhelming amount of content for couples getting married to ingest. We decided to start a new series asking local Omaha wedding experts to share their practical, helpful wedding advice and tips. We've got a variety of big, little, funny, serious, boujee, and practical tips coming your way!
First up, we have our dear friend, Colleen Tigges, licensed esthetician and makeup artist at Lavish Hair Studio and Spa.
We have worked with Colleen a multitude of times and have been long-time clients of hers as well! Not only is she insanely talented, she will 100% make you feel like you're the cutest person on earth.
Recently we asked Colleen if she has any pre-wedding skin and beauty recommendations she would be interested in offering up. We wanted to get these little tips because skin care and the like can really make an impact on photography!
On your wedding day we want you to feel comfortable in your own skin. Beautiful from the inside out. The most beautiful version of yourself. So you just as well do a little pre-work, right?
"I have all my brides consider these before their big day!" - Colleen
Ingestible Beauty
Supplements specifically intended to improve the appearance of your skin. It's recommended to start these 14 weeks prior to your wedding day for best results. (Please consult a licensed esthetician or your doctor before you dive in. We're photographers. We don't know science, physics, and such.)
Facials
Customized facials to target your specific skin goals all while being able to relax! Consider a series of 4 facials for continued progress and the best bang for your buck. Guys, you should do them too!
Listen...here at the studio, we probably love a facial more than anything. They're SO relaxing and make your skin glow for days. If you've never had one, we could easily be pressured into going with you to make sure you enjoy it...
Consistent Skin Care Routine
Consistency is key! Talk to a licensed esthetician about what products would be best for you and your skin specifically.
We believe skin care is huge in preparation for looking and feeling your best on your wedding day (for any photo session, really). In the midwest, weather can absolutely wreak havoc on your skin. Lately it's literally cold, hot, windy, snowy, and everything else in between right now. This can really do a number on your skin.
At our photography studio, we do very minimal skin-retouching on the photos we make. This is because we want your photos to look like you. Not a plastic version of you.
If there's a skin "situation" that needs to be managed in post-production, we'll handle it with our client’s consent first, but we don't shoot with the intention of "we'll photoshop it".
We've all had weird skin situations happen. We get it! We got you! But, if there's a way to be proactive, we always encourage it! Find a routine that works best for you and stick to it!
Eyelash Enhancements
Extensions? Lash lift? Lash growth serums? They all can have beautiful results! However, Colleen highly suggests extensions for your big day! Extensions add length and volume, but still look natural! A licensed esthetician will apply the correct length and thickness without damaging your natural lash.
Now, we'll be the first to admit that eyelash extensions are an investment. But we'll also admit that we've both been getting them once a year for years now with zero regrets. We love waking up feeling like we could actually wear one of those tank tops that say, "I woke up like this".
If fake eyelash strips drive you nuts and you don't want to mess with them flying off your face on your wedding day, extensions are totally the way to go.
Spray Tanning
YES. Feel free to try it out! Colleen highly suggests being airbrushed by a certified technician! Read that again...airbrushed by a certified technician. For best results she suggests getting your spray tan 2 days before the big event!
Thankfully, the spray tan has come a long way in its existence. Now, when you go to a certified spray tanning technician, they can customize your tanning solution to match your skin tone! No more orange brides and grooms! Every photographer alive is thankful for this.
When using an automatic spray-tan machine, your tan is only going to be as good as the machine that gave it to you. Every body needs attention in different places and a certified technician will take care of that for you and customize your tan to your needs.
Waxing
Bikini to Brazilian! Each design serves a purpose! Feel confident and worry free on your wedding night and honeymoon! Whatever you're into...you do you.
If you're looking for an esthetician or makeup artist, we'd highly recommend Colleen and her team at Lavish Salon and Spa. Contact them here!
